Note from Joshua Butler, First Scholarship Recipient
“I want to thank [EKBPA] for the support in the start of my postsecondary journey. In our world of education, one value will forever remain important: investment is necessary for our students of color.

Going to an Ivy League institution echoed that value, but unfortunately, that value has benefitted and replicated generations of discriminatory wealth and privilege. However, my community’s investment in education helps bridge the racial and socioeconomic gap. My community’s investment in my education helped me realize a calling in my life – to invest in the lives of students, particularly students of color.

Currently, I serve as a Career Coach with Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. I work with high school students in developing postsecondary plans to ensure success in education, employment, or enlistment. I achieve this through collaboration with community organizations, just like yours. My hope is to share the investment that was handed to me.
I send my blessings to every person, organization, and company that allowed me to be a recipient of such a tremendous blessing. Thank you all for the impact you are making on the developing minds of our youth.
